In 1837, Victoria County's first Commissioners Court met in a
hand-hewn log church.
A petition was presented to the court to procure a courthouse other than church
which was built for the purpose of religious worship. In 1849 an official
courthouse was built. When the county outgrew the small structure, the
site was cleared and the Romanesque courthouse was completed in 1892. By
the mid-60s, the county had once again outgrown its courthouse and a modern
structure was completed in 1967 next to the historic courthouse.
In 2001, the restoration of the 1892 courthouse was completed. Both the 1892 and the 1967 courthouses are in active use today.
