On May 13, 2011 a Victoria County jury found Joe Cecilio Villarreal, Jr. guilty of Murder and Intoxicated Assault. The charges stemmed from a March 2009 drunk driving episode where Villarreal drove his Dodge truck off a bridge near Placedo killing Rosa Ramos Satterwhite and severely injuring Adan Arevalo.Villarreal was charged with Felony Murder due to his four prior driving while intoxicated convictions.

Evidence presented at trial showed that Villarreal’s blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit at the time of the offense. The same jury assessed Villarreal’s sentences at 60 years for the Murder of Satterwhite, and 10 years for the Assault on Arevalo.District Judge Joseph Kelly presided over the case.Assistant District Attorney Eddie Wilkinson along with Arnold Hayden represented the State of Texas and Lee J. Lewis represented the defendant.
